"When man works, man works, but when man prays, God works."
~motto of Operation World
Do not pray for easy lives; pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers; pray for powers equal to your tasks. Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, but you shall be a miracle.
~Bishop Phillips Brooks
At the beginning of a particularly stressful, busy week I heard this quote and was convicted to pray for the power to equal the tasks God wanted me to accomplish and not to depend on my own strength. The week did not go as I would have planned. I spent most of the week sick in bed. I continued to pray this prayer believing that God was still in control. I didn't get anything done physically that week, but God worked in me and around me in ways that I never could have done by my own strength or wisdom. I have wondered since then if God was trying to show me how He is stronger when I am weaker and less self-sufficient. Or if he was trying to teach me to be more concerned about the spiritual and relational side of life, than how much I need to get done. In the end, he even sent physical help for the tasks that He has given me. We serve a God who wants to show us His Glory!!
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Matt 7:7
