I am going to quote a paragraph from a book I have been reading lately called Red Moon Rising by Pete Greig. "...the conviction grew in me that this was a defining moment, a moment of truth, perhaps even a moment of judgement for Samie and me. Such moments generally cross our lives when we least expect them, but when they do, our actions and responses say everything about us for weeks, or months or years to come. They are tests, moments of divine crisis, which the Chinese call "dangerous opportunities." I knew that if we drove away from Dubi that day, a small irredeemable part of me would feel like a hypocrite forever, unable to guarantee a different response the next time round. How could we cruise from Hernnhut to Prague through Dubi, claiming to be listening to God, talking great concepts about a army of young people, yet ignoring the needs of the poor at our door? I knew that an apology to God later that night in Prague would be too late."
I have been convicted lately that my eyes need to be opened to the needs around me, and my heart softened and sensitive enough that I can feel the Spirit move. It is good to talk about great spiritual concepts, but if I am just hovering around on my own spiritual spaceship many miles from the real world. What good am I? Where is the truth in that? Am I even close enough to people to see the opportunities and hurts? I have a desire to be ordinary and extraordinary at the same time. This all sounds good, but I have no idea how this is all going to work out in my life. I can't say as a stay at home mom that I am rubbing shoulders with lots of people. I just pray that when an opportunity however small it may be comes my way. I will see it and act.
